  Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I play HD video on your X5000 player?
A: X-line players can stream Divx/Xvid/WMV video in 720p/1080p native resolution from a combination of DVD-ROM/USB device/wired network connection. From our testing, under optimal conditions, 54Mpbs wireless is sufficient in transmitting 1080p HD without interference.

Q: What chipset does the player use?
A: The chipset we used in the X-line players are Sigma Designs EM8620, which is capable of upscalling a variety of formats including: MPEG-4, WMV, Xvid, Divx and MPEG-2 to 720p/1080i/1080p resolution via Component, HDMI and VGA; as well as upscalling your entire DVD collection.

Q: What is the difference between the X3000 and the X5000?
A: Compare to the X3000 player, Helios X5000 player is more focused on the build quality and audio / video performance. This player uses an R-Core linear power supply system which delivers extremely "clean" and stable power output, which makes the audio/video output of this player "noise free" and more natural. Also, the Audio DAC is preformed by a Wolfsen chip working with a Burr-Brown Op-Amp. All sub components used in the player are professional grade components for audio/video to ensure the player delivers "true" fidelity. And, the X5000 has a highly impressive handcrafted brushed aluminum case.

Q: Will the Helios X5000 consume the content on a Buffalo TeraStation Live 1TB, using one of the native media streaming sources (Buffalo PCast Media Server or DLNA CERTIFIED Media Server)?
A: Helios X-line players are uPnP compatible devices, as long as your NAS server supports uPnP protocol, it player will be able to detect your NAS server automatically and stream all the video/audio content even your PC was switched off.

Q: I would like to know if the X3000 or X5000 are compatible with Mac.
A: NeoLink currently supports Windows only, but there are alternative applications you can use with other platforms. Our customers have reported success with the following media server applications:
Mac OS X - Elgato Eyeconnect - http://www.elgato.com/index.php?file=products_eyeconnect
Linux - Wizd - http://wizd.sourceforge.net

Q: Can either X3000 or X5000 play H.264 encoded video?
A: Due to the chipset limitation, current X-Line players will not be able to support H.264/X.264 codec; but we do have plans to release a new player in Q4 of this year that will support H.264 codec.
Please keep checking our website www.helios-labs.com for updates.

Q: Do the X-Line players support the Matroska file format (.mka / .mkv)?
A: We were aware that mkv format video content is getting popular, but due to the chipset limitation, mkv format is not supported at the moment. This format/feature will be reviewed in future products.

Q: Do the X-line players play DVDs in ISO format?
A: In current firmware, X3000 and X5000 players cannot play *.iso format video content direct from DVD-ROM or USB drive.
However, based on the uPnP protocol, X-line players are able to stream ISO video from your computer through Wizd XP uPnP media server software, which is open source software, and it is available to download for free over http://wizd.sourceforge.net

Q: How many USB ports supported by X5000 player?
A: X5000 player comes with 2 USB ports, 1 on the rear panel and the other on the right side. In addition, X3000 player has 1 USB port on the front panel.

Q: What audio and video DAC does the X5000 use?
A: For 2-channel stereo Audio DAC, the X5000 uses Burr-Brown DAC and a Burr-Brown Op-Amp which gives it its superior Audio/music quality. The video DAC is the same as is used in the X3000 - 12 bit/ 150Mhz.
