With a little more finess, a little more "finishing touch", the Helios X5000 would be called the best available today, not just b the 1080p support and high quality Audio Output and design, but also in its performance.

If you are looking for a device that is compatible with most disc-based video and audio formats (except for high def disc and 5.1 audio) and interfaces via the internet with both your home theater and PC, then check out the Helios X5000. This is not your grandmother’s DVD player.

The Helios X5000 is what I would call the flagship design for NeoDigits. Its build quality is infinitely better than the previous players I’ve seen from them and reminds me more of a higher end line from a specialty company. The quality of the components used inside is also far better than its price point dictates. Audiophile quality digital to analog converters and an impressive power supply are just some of the rare touches this player offers for a very reasonable price.

People who enjoy listening to CD quality FLAC (free lossless audio codec) files and those that are set up for home theater stereo sound will appreciate these quality touches. It should appeal to audiophiles and videophiles alike.

"I was a little surprised to see an "Online Media" button in the "NeoLink" screen on the player. This gave me the chance to access my PC's Web Bookmarks, "Podcast Alley", "Newsweek On Air", "SHOUTcast Pop", Yahoo News, and RealNetwork's Rhapsody music service."

The wireless/wired networking side of this player really feels like it opens up home cinema usage and for me personally, was quite a revelation in the features it allowed me to access.

We've been fans of the Helios H4000 upconverting DivX player for a while, thanks to its slim form factor, 1080p output, and relatively low price. But if you're looking to go one level up to a connected player, the Helios X3000 is the one for you. Combining the H4000's playback features—which decodes DivX, MPEG1/2/4, XViD, WMVHD, VOB and TS video—with networking functionality, The X3000 is a set-top-box that can play back just about every file you have in the house.
Did we like it? You bet your mother (in-law).

Sigma Designs' groundbreaking EM8620 chipset has brought us a slew of hi-def ready network streaming products. Some are purely network players, though some also handle compatible content stored on USB memory devices. Others, including the KiSS DP-600, have DVDROM drives and will thus also play DVDs. NeoDigits – one of the few manufacturers to support the obscure HVD hi-def format – has now declared its interest in AV networking with the EM8620-based X3000.

The Helios X3000 is simultaneously one of the best and worst devices we've ever seen. Its performance is outstanding, delivering some of the most well implemented features we've seen. At the same time, however, it's also, at times, almost impossible to control. The player seems to have a mind of its own, and is frustratingly difficult to operate, a problem compounded by its remote. Nevertheless, in the end this is a problem that can be negated with a few weeks' practice learning the various tricks of the player. The X3000's features, including wired and wireless media streaming and DVD upscaling, are of a caliber that's sure to make it a valued product for a long time to come.

H4000 HD Upscaling DVD Player Reviews
|
 |

So you have a HDTV, but nothing to connect the HDMI port to? The most low cost device that can be connected to it is a DVD player with HDMI. Better yet, get an upscaling DVD player that uses all available lines on your fine HDTV. Most upscaling DVD players do 720p. The now shipping neodigits Helios H4000 is even able to upscale to full high definition resolution (1080p).
I had some doubts about the benefits of upscaling before reviewing the H4000. I was pleasantly surprised that it really makes a difference.

The Helios H4000 is a feature-packed upscaling DVD player.
Features such as 720p/1080i/1080p upscaling, through both HDMI and component outputs make this unit an attractive option for HDTV owners.

The DVD player performed as well as any of the other upconverting players we have reviewed. DVDs looked quite nice on this player. We ran through our typical suite of DVDs. The night scope scenes of Blackhawk down played back flawlessly. The Superbit version of Spiderman looked, in a word, super! Colors looked true and skin tones looked natural. There was detail present that was not noticeable with our standard DVD player. This was especially evident with our superbit DVD. This was true on 1080p and 720p TVs. One nice feature is that the H4000 upconverts over component cables so HDTV owners who have TVs without digital inputs can also use this player and enjoy improved picture quality.

| This player not only supports DVD, SVCD, VCD, CD, HDCD, MP3, WMA, MPEG 4, and DivX but also allows users to output nearly any resolution over its three high-def outputs.

| The H4000 is solidly constructed, with a metric asston of outputs. HDMI, component, composite, S-Video, VGA, 5.1 surround audio, optical audio and coax audio makes the back more holey than Jesus' beer mug.
